It’s the Thursday before a holiday weekend, and all I can think about is what yummy treats am I going to make over the long weekend. I currently don’t have a planned menu for the weekend. We are just going to grill a few things, and I may make a pasta salad or grill some veggies. I know one thing – I am going to make it’s this Chocolate Strawberry Ripple ice cream. I have made this several times, and it truly is one of my favorite homemade ice cream recipes. The best part about this recipe is you – don’t have to use an ice cream maker! Happy 4th to you and yours – and let’s be thankful for the many freedoms we enjoy in this country.
“What’s been going on around here?” you may be asking. A whole lot of life and living with work, new house, school, and this crazy family. It has been a while since I have touched this little place of mine, and I really do miss it. This is the place where I share all my creativity with friends, family, and well all the others out there that have stumbled upon this blog. Here’s a little insight on what’s been going on lately.
We moved into a new house in August (Yay!) and it has been a lot of work. I have been using a lot of my time trying to make this new, unfamiliar place feel like home. I am finally at a good point with almost everything in a place. The kids have adjusted great to the new neighborhood and are starting to make new friends. I am blessed to have a bigger kitchen to inspire me to create new recipes. While I have been doing some new stuff, it’s still busy with work and life. I want to get started again and hope that I can get my creative juices flowing enough to make some great things to share with all of you.
Baby, it’s hot outside! It’s that time of year where not even the pool water is refreshing anymore. I wanted a cool and refreshing treat, granita is the perfect way to cool off. I wanted to make this version more on the adult side and so I added vodka to this recipe. You can always omit the vodka and follow the recipe and it will still be perfect and kid-friendly. I think adding mint or basil to this would add a whole other layer of flavor. This is a very quick and easy way to beat this summer heat!
Boozy Watermelon Granita
- 4 cups Watermelon juice
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
Ah, biscuits! Growing up every Saturday morning I was awaken by the smell of biscuits in the oven. Both my mom and grandmother have a natural talent for making amazing biscuits. You know, that talent where no measuring cups or scales are used. Unfortunately, I did not inherit this trait from either of them. I have never really been a great biscuit maker. Sure, I have tried tons of recipes but they have never been as great as the biscuits I grew up eating. I finally stumbled upon this recipe which is pretty darn close to perfect. I have made these biscuits many times now and I know this is the recipe I will always use.
Summer is in full swing and our family is busier than ever. Which has caused my menu planning to well at this point what menu planning. I haven’t planned our menu for over a month. It’s time to get my butt in gear and to do that I actually sat down and took some time this week to get myself organized. As I was going through my list of recipes to try I came across this delicious and easy recipe. I already had everything I need in my pantry so it was definitely going on my menu this week. This recipe was just what I needed to get myself back in the kitchen. Summer is almost halfway over and there is no sign rest and relaxation in the near future, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I love a good brownie. I have to admit when I make brownies I usually go for the box mix. I have tried a few homemade versions in the past but none of them really turned out as good as the boxed mixes. One day I was having a huge brownie craving so I decided to try the homemade version one last time. I was looking for a recipe that didn’t have a ton of eggs or butter. I was still in my jammies and really didn’t want to go to the store. Finally, I found the perfect recipe and I already had all the ingredients on hand! These brownies are amazing and I will make them whenever I have another craving, which is often:)
